Dear Parents and Guardians:
In recent days the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has
indentified a new influenza virus, known as Swine Flu. Our school
community at Our Lady of Good Counsel School is
taking this virus seriously, although at this time no cases have been found in
Pennsylvania. We suggest that you take the following precautions:
- Any student who has a fever above 100F and a cough or sore throat
should be kept home from school. This is particularly true if
anyone in your family has recently traveled to Mexico or
come into contact with anyone who has recently returned from Mexico.
- If your child demonstrates the symptoms above it is suggested
that you contact your doctor.
- We also encourage you to speak to your child about taking the
following everyday precautions that can help prevent the spread
of germs that cause respiratory illnesses such as Swine Flu.
- Wash hands often with soap and water
- Keep nails trimmed
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve when
coughing or sneezing
Remember, keeping a sick child home is the best way to prevent
the spread of person to person respiratory illnesses.
To assist you further, attached is an additional resource from
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that answers
frequently asked questions about Swine Flu.
As always, the safety of our students remains our first priority.
Please feel free to contact me directly with any concerns,
questions or feedback.

Mr. Frank S. Mokriski,
